Skye se faufile du camp à la plage à travers la végétation luxuriante. Ici en Australie, il y a de grandes périodes de sécheresse suivies de fortes pluies (voire des inondations) comme en ce moment. Notre bivouac. Nous dégustons un plat fait très simplement avec des oignons, de l’ail, des tomates des épices… cuit dans un fait-tout directement sur le feu. Le tout est bien sûr accompagné d’une bonne baguette ! Notre fidèle chien « D » nous suit partout dans nos voyages, sur la plage, il fait partie de la famille. C’est un chien à bétail typique de l’Australie, il est infatigable. Tucker at camp. Tucker is the Australian word for food. On the camp fire a stew is simple and easy in the camp oven, just throw it on the coals, add your onion, garlic, tomatoes and spice, a little crunchy bread and there you have it....super tasty. See our dog "D" in this shot, he is our best friend, I love him like a son, he surfs, eats and sleeps with us. He is an Australian Cattle dog, what is called an Australian working dog but with us the only real work he has to do is love us and everything goes his way!! bones/cuddles/ long walks and surfing with dad on his longboard.

Avec les pluies tropicales de cette saison, j’ai toujours avec moi mon sac étanche, qui garde mes affaires bien au sec. An essential at this time of year in Australia. Un bon feu, mon chien, ma guitare, et quelques planches de surf… rien de mieux pour se ressourcer D and I at camp, what else do you need, a good dog, a guitar that feels like a part of your body, a couple of surfboards, a tent and big fire blazing...this is living, this is living the dream and the modern day explorer life.

La météo peut changer très vite ici. On peut, en quelques minutes, passer du chaud et ensoleillé à un ciel menaçant… Living in a sub-tropical climate means that the weather conditions don't just change a little they can change real quick!! from hot and sunny one minute to very fresh with dark clouds looming, the fleece is a must.

Skye ne l’admettra pas mais c’est une cuisinière hors pair. Chacun de ses plats est délicieux, même en pleine nature. Skye washing our last pot in the stream after another surf session. Skye would never admit to being an amazing cook but she really is. Even if it is simple camp fire food she makes it taste spectacular every single time.

Lorsque vous surfez, vous êtes libres. Vous vous rendez compte que vous laissez tout derrière vous : le travail, les factures, internet… Vous êtes en harmonie avec l’océan, tout le reste est superflu. There is something so free about the simple act of going surfing. If you are conscious you realise that when you look back into the shore you have left all of you worries behind. There is no traffic, no work, no bills no internet, no nothing ! just yourself and you thoughts and the sea...what more could there be...nothing more is needed.

Surfer sur le nose me donne une sensation de grandeur et de vitesse, et me donne l’impression de voler. Il y avait très peu de surfeurs qui surfaient de cette manière dans les années 70, mais j’ai toujours trouvé ça cool en longboard mais aussi en shortboard. Depuis 6-8ans j’aime m’entraîner à prendre des tubes en hang five. Riding the nose of a board gives you a greater feeling of going faster, with a lower centre of gravity it feels like you are flying. There were very few surfers during the 1970's riding the nose of there boards and I always thought it was super cool and very functional for riding close to the curl on both long and shortboard. For the last 6-8 years I have been enjoying riding the nose of the board inside the tubing hollow section of waves.

Aujourd’hui, le surf a bien changé. Les jeunes cherchent à aller dans les airs mais pour moi, un carving turn bien réalisé aura toujours du style. En surf, en snow, en skate… et sous toutes les formes de glisse, on retrouve ce mouvement de rotation. A lot has changed in surfing over the years and quite rapidly. Kids these days are doing tricks in the air on tiny boards that could never have been imagined, but for me the nice long swooping carving turn never goes out of style. Surfing/snowboarding/windsurfing/sailing or skateboarding...all these glide art forms have one essential ingredient I love the g-force that is created through a solid powerful banking turn.

J’aime surfer tout seul ou accompagné de Skye & de quelques amis. La côte peut être parfois menaçante avec les cyclones, les pluies tropicales, sans oublier les requins. Il y a de nombreuses attaques de requins sur la côte Est de l’Australie. On les aperçoit presque quotidiennement dans la baie de Byron là où je vis. J’y pense à chaque fois que je rentre dans l’eau. Le requin est le roi de l’océan, et nous venons jouer là où il vit. For me surfing is a very special thing to do. I enjoy surfing alone or quite often just with my girlfriend and 1 or 2 other friends. With the grey skies and the beginnings of a tropical cyclone beginning the sky/land and sea all appear grey and a little intimidating at times. There have been numerous shark attacks on the east coast of Australia and sightings almost daily in the byron bay region where I live. If i get frightened or start thinking about sharks I go in. Sharks are the kings of the ocean and it is there home we are solucky to enjoy.

Les sessions de surf dont je suis sorti heureux sont innombrables... J’utilise souvent ce boardshort, il est le plus léger que j’ai pu porter, il arrive au dessus des genoux et ne me gêne donc pas lors des manoeuvres. I couldn't count how many times I've exited the sea after another beautiful connection with mother ocean and her waves. exiting another solo surf mission just me and my thoughts...ideally not many thoughts at all. these shorts are the lightest I've ever owned and being above knee length they are ideal for enabling surfing manoeuvres.
